This is the short list of AI tools for side income, plus the money apps to put that income to work. ThynkRise has covered dozens of AI tools and money apps, and most of them don’t make this page. The ones here earned a spot because they do one job well, they have a fair way to start (a free plan, a trial, or an open-source version), and there’s a full breakdown you can read before paying for anything.
How we choose: official documentation, pricing pages and user reports (methodology). Links marked partner may earn us a commission at no cost to you. That never changes what gets recommended (disclosure). Prices come from our latest review of each tool, so check the vendor’s pricing page before you buy.

2. Research and answers
Perplexity
Answers come with clickable sources, which makes checking claims much faster than with a plain chatbot.

- Research you need to cite: articles, reports, product comparisons
- Cost
- Free tier is genuinely usable. Pro is $20/month and bundles several top models; $10/month for verified students

- Best for
- Course creators, consultants and support pages with a lot of existing content
- Cost
- Free trial, then paid plans
- Skip it if
- You don’t have much content yet. It’s only as good as what you feed it
OutlierKit
Surfaces YouTube videos and topics that are beating their channel’s usual numbers, so you’re not guessing what to make next.
- Best for
- Creators who publish weekly and want topic ideas backed by data
- Cost
- 10 free credits, no card. Hobby $29, Pro $49, Max $199 per month
- Skip it if

What didn’t make the list
Plenty of popular tools. We left out anything with no free plan or trial (you shouldn’t have to pay to find out a tool doesn’t fit), tools that mostly repackage a model you can already use directly, and anything we couldn’t verify from official documentation. If a tool you use isn’t here, that isn’t a verdict against it. We just haven’t covered it properly yet.
FAQ
What are the best free AI tools to start a side income?
Perplexity’s free tier for research and Make.com’s free plan for automation. If you code, add OpenCode. That covers research, automation and building without a subscription. See the $0 stack.
Do I need paid AI tools to make money online?
Not at the start. A paid plan makes sense once the free tier is the thing slowing you down, not before.
Make.com or n8n: which should a beginner use?
Make.com, unless you already run servers. It’s quicker to set up and the free plan is enough to learn on. Move to n8n if you hit the credit ceiling or need self-hosting.
Why are there affiliate links on this page?
A few tools pay us a commission if you sign up through our link, at no extra cost to you. Most tools on this page pay us nothing. The picks and the “skip it if” notes are the same either way.
How often is this page updated?
Whenever we publish or update a review that changes a recommendation. The date at the top shows the last change.
